Interestingly, designing a roller shade may be easier than most have thought it might. You can do this all by the use of your computer. All the necessary materials are available for the makings of window treatments, like roller shades.

The fabrics that these stores sell are by the yard. These types of stores specialize in window treatments. And they have all the tools to get you started on the makings of your roller shades. You will see many different styles and designs by color and fabric types. Designers are willing to help you with any concerns you may have with your project. The online designers can be of help on the phone as well as online.

When searching for roller shades make sure that you have gotten the measurements right. The right fit makes all the difference between dark and light, and privacy and no privacy. You will not want to mess up on this. There will be directions to show you how to measure such window frames. Now the exterior roller shades will be a little larger than the window. This is because the window is level against the house, so there are no gaps.

If possible, try to get a bunch of different swatches. They should be for the interior as well as the exterior window frames. This is to give you a better idea of what they mean when the site says heavy weighted canvas to sheer linens. This is important because even though they do have them for you to sample on the Internet, it just is not the same as hands on samplings.

Another idea, call the company directly and tell them what you plan on doing. You may be able to get them to send the swatches for free, especially, if you are going to buy from them. Otherwise, most likely, they will cost you at least the shipping fee. And if they do, make sure to ask them for a discount on your first order. Many companies do this for your first purchase at their online store anyways. Just make sure because it can add up.

Now you can pick out your fabrics and complete the look of the roller shades. Hopefully this will go smoothly, it can be a little tricky at first. But just remember that anything you might need help with is just a Google away. Just go through one swatch at a time.

Another great idea is to make a map of the room or rooms that you plan on working on. You want to make sure that this map is pretty close to scale. Also state the furnishings and the material in and about the room. You need to know this so when you go back over all the details that everything is well matched. With all this in mind, you should be able to pull off a great look.

Certainly, you do not want to buy anything without consulting a professional. Remember, they are available for free through the stores website. Doing this for free can really save you so much money. And shoot, you just might find that you have a knack for this type of work. This is how professionals become professional, by doing.

Those who are looking to find the best deal on window shades, may wish to visit blindsfactorydirect.com to find the best advice on roller shades for their own needs.

Roller shades have many different weight types and styles of fabric to choose from. These window shades are available in many different classifications of fabric. The shade is chosen by fabric type, brand name, prints, type, and or the history of the fabric.

Bamboo is the heavier weighted material used to make a roller shades. The other ones of such weight are made of canvas, upholstery, and hemp. The make of these they are usually for the exterior of the window. This is used for purposes of the heat and sun damage that comes from direct exposure. This is not only great for the summer months but also winter. Keeping the heat and cold temperatures from passing through the glass. Most of these exterior window shades can be bought from local stores for very little money.

Second types of fabric weights consist of the more average class of shade material. This more often is the type of material that is used for making the shade. And is also the material used for interior purposes of window treatments. Such fabrics are cotton types, bamboo, and hemp. The bamboo and hemp can be processed into a finer weight, from once a heavy material. These materials are a very durable. They will last a lifetime, if well maintained.

This last class of fabric is quite expensive. And also can take more effort to make into roller shades. Egyptian cotton, the many types of silk and chiffon are in this class of very lightweight material. This type of fabric would be best used in a room with just one window, to reap the full profit of the work and money put into the roller shade. Such a room like an attic.

So now that the weight issue has been discussed, the styles of fabric one has to choose from are great. There are many options to what kind of look will come about after it is completed. The fabric has prints on the fabric or worked into the fabric, like a weave. The weave is of textured prints of flowering plants, trees, pin stripes, stripes, dots, plaids, links and waves

The textured print of the Italian tree is called the Florentina. Also a kind of tree is the flowering plant called the Wisteria. They both would add a beautiful addition to the shade upon the panel. Stripes give the look of a vintage style like that of the Piano, it has thicker lines than pin stripes. Pin stripes are just that, thin lines, but with various colors. One of the many favorites is the Addelton. A pattern that has a very lively look to it is the Dotti. It has many different styles of dots.

Plaid is one of the styles to pick from also. Named Harwich, with the kind of a 70’s style to it. Just like the Harwich, Rockafeller and the Wavelet also have a 70’s theme Rockafeller has a design of links overlapping themselves and comes in various colors as well. The Wavelet speaks for itself. Even though, it really is not a print but a weave effect into the fabric that gives it its waves. Also, this kind of weave effect that is given to the Wavelet, is how the tiny squares get their pattern in a Pershing fabric, that also comes in many different colors.

When shopping for roller shades make sure to first purchase a swatch sample. This will help compare your furnishings with the numerous types of fabrics and patterns available.

Putting together a child’s room does not have to be a headache, or a strain on the family budget. Doing this yourself does not require a skill or know how in the area of decorating or construction, either. This can be simple and easy, and better yet very affordable. When you are done, even the roller shades will be a warm, lasting memory of creation.

Items used to spruce up walls, such as wallpaper decals, can be found just about anywhere now. Though originally intended to allow you to quickly and easily add personality to a child’s room, they have become rather ordinary. For a more unique touch try your hand at designing an outline yourself and then let your child have fun painting it.

Design a clock for the wall. The inner workings of the clock can be easily be obtained in a kit, and then for the rest of the clock you can piece it together out of things that reflect the interests of you child. If he or she is a fan of sports, or has a particular hobby, that can all be incorporated in clock. It will be one of a kind, not to mention a great Saturday afternoon project.

Finding room for additional play surfaces for dolls, trucks, or puzzles can be difficult. Instead of putting in new carpet, consider using a large area rug that doubles as a fun play surface. As an added plus they are easily clean. They protect the actual flooring from the wear and tear that comes from kids. Should it become too soiled to salvage you can replace it.

The ads for elaborate and create beds for children are very tempting. These beds, as advertised, also cost a considerable fortune. By checking salvage or thrift markets you can generally find good wood to use to create one on your own. This way the elaborate bed gets custom designed, but without the custom design cost.

Instead of wasting money on expensive wall decor, try looking through your attic instead. By cleaning up some family heirlooms, or extra stuff, you can get plenty of usable decorations without ever making a trip to the store. The same baby blanket they come home from the hospital in can also be hung on the wall in a very tasteful way.

Lighting can another item that you can save a lot of money on. While you may find very cute lampshades at the store, check the thrift shop first and get a very inexpensive one. Clean it up, color it, paint it, punch holes in it, or weave ribbon through the bottom of it. Either way, this is a great way to further personalize the room, and it is something that your child can actively participate in.

Roller shades can be bought plain white. Before putting them up, let you child color and design it any way he or she would like. This can be the finishing touch on a highly personalized bedroom. When you see your finished product it will be far more than just another bedroom, it will be a work of art that you and your child will have created together.

Stop by Jesita Jerik’s site where you can find out all about roller shades and what they can do for you when saving money is also an issue.

Roller shades allow a person to keep the sun from beating directly into the inside of the house. It allows one to keep the inside of the house cool or, when the situation requires it, allows you to remove the window shades and let the sun directly in for heat on an otherwise cool autumn or spring day. They can be adjusted the same as any other blind so one has the ultimate ability to control the amount of sunlight in the room.

Lighter than most metal or vinyl shades, they are also usually much more reasonably priced. Unlike their vinyl and metal brethren they do not have to be pre-cut for the window you want to use them on. It gives us greater flexibility when purchasing if we don’t have the exact dimensions. If we find out the window is a different size than we thought it was they can still be used without fixing them to the window permanently.

An advantage to having shades that are not connected to the window frame is that they can be used vertically or horizontally and they can be interchanged between windows. If your house, apartment, or condominium has windows facing the morning, afternoon, or evening sun, simply move the window shades from one room to the next as time passes. This allows for extra savings because one does not have to purchase separate window shades for each and every window.

Using shades this way, without having them permanently fixed to each window in the house allows one to remove them completely during the winter months when they may not be as needed. This has the added advantage of making each room look different for each season. So even if the rules in the apartment one lives in are fairly strict as to adding things to the home, you can still keep out the direct sunlight.

There are number of things in the home like furniture or even wooden floors that are difficult or impossible to move and so are more affected by the sun coming in through the windows. The sun can bleach the covers of couches and chairs, wood and even carpeting and so protecting against direct sunlight also protects your possessions. It is an added advantage that these protective devices are simple and good looking.

These devices provide a simple and effective way to add color, style and texture to any room decor. Many are constructed with modern fabrics so they can be cleaned or even resist dirt and grime from the outset for ease of care. Designs are as varied as the imagination and are economical enough to change patterns by season or even special occasion.

One can find these window dressings in a variety of opacities, from gentle light filtering to moderate room darkening to the ultimate in blackout fabrics depending on the environment and needs. Depending on your personal preference you can choose between standard or reverse roll, and can have the roll exposed or encased in a cassette head rail system.

The variety does not stop there. One can choose from decorative hems and those with tassels. Even the activation piece has variety with many different types of ring pulls. Whatever your preference, roller shades can match it with precisely what you desire for your windows.

Find out how to choose and save on window shades. Stop by Jesita Jerik’s site where you can find out all about roller shades and what they can do for you when saving money is also an issue.

From the late nineteenth century and for the next sixty years, roller shades were used in many homes to keep out the light and heat of the sun. They kept anyone from seeing inside the home. They operated on a spring loaded roller bar that allowed the shade to be adjusted, they were made of paper and they could be ordered in most major catalogs.

As our understanding of technology grew, paper roller shades were replaced with vinyl. Now stronger and able to withstand the daily ups and downs, they remained an uninteresting off white. They served their purpose well, lasted longer, but added little to a room.

As times have changed, however, so has the use of roller shades. They remain a functional part of our lives, but also add flair and design. Still keeping out the negative effects of over exposure to the sun, shades can prevent fading of fabric, but also protect against the harsh ultraviolet rays. They can darken a room, but also create ambiance and those final touches that set a mood and finish a design.

Traditional installation fits inside the window frame, but allows light to seep around the edges. Outside installation sets solve the problem by placing the shade such that it covers the window frame as well, further darkening the room. Western facing rooms become easier to cool with less direct sunlight, thereby lowering the cost for cooling. Furniture and carpets will fade less if protected from constant sun exposure. Sunrise is no longer the morning wake up call for eastern facing bedrooms and day sleepers can rest in darker rooms.

Improvements are not limited to functionality, however. Options for color, texture and style abound. Paper shades are available for a delicate touch. Shades may be purchased with patterns, prints, designs, even pictures. Shades may be purchased in a variety of colors to match the floor, walls or furniture. Different textures are available. Bamboo or woven designs can provide a raw feel while lace may create a gentler look. An assortment of patterns can be found to match borders or themes: sea shells in a bathroom or bears in a nursery.

No longer limited to the window shades that roll around a top bar, flat window shades fold into graceful pleats when raised. Environmentally friendly shades are completely recyclable, containing no PVC commonly used in other types. Metal mesh fabrics add a clean, high-tech edge to a room. Solar protection shades are designed to block potentially dangerous UV rays, while still allowing for a view to the outside.

Have a skylight? Roller shades made to follow the slope of the roof can be added. And if pulling it up and down is a problem, motorized shades work by remote control. Simply push a button and up or down it goes.

Roller shades can also be customized. For the decorator who has a gift for making their own crafts, simple acrylic paint, stencils and stamps can be used. This allows the decorator full freedom to match the window shades to any design or decoration in any room of the home. If one does not want to work completely from scratch, kits are available for purchase at many hobby or craft stores. Some kits are complete while others may require the purchase of specific items. Kits come with instructions and a list of what is included.

When these shades were first invented, they were intended as just an inexpensive way to block out the sunlight. The first shades were made of thick paper or canvas on a spring-loaded aluminum roller. The choice in materials was done out of durability, light weight, and in order to keep the price of the window shades inexpensive. They were so effective that they became a fixture in homes, campers, and porches everywhere very quickly.

Like all well-loved things, people began to try to find ways to make roller shades even better. Better steel spring systems have been created with rust-proof parts for outdoor conditions and long indoor lives. Better mounting attachments make adding a shade easy. Some shades can even be removed from their rollers for easy cleaning or to change out the fabrics at will.

Although traditional paper and canvas shades are still around, the quality has gone up, as has the variety of materials. Now you can fine beautiful decorator lace shades in bedrooms, sturdy vinyl shades in designer colors for your sun rooms and patios, and exotic hand-made paper shades in upscale studios all over the world. It seems the designs and colors shades can come in are nearly limitless.

Now the window shades are also hitting the road in the form of new, lightweight portable sun-blocking shades. These shades are great for protecting children and car interiors from the damaging rays of the sun. They are made from special dark screen fabrics that are easy to see through yet still work great at keeping out the sun. When you are done using them, they are super easy to remove from the car as well. Just simply unhook them and you’re done!

Care and cleaning for these lovely shades is a snap! All you need to do is to use a soft dust cloth or a feather duster to remove any dust that builds up. The smaller, portable shades can sometimes be shaken lightly to remove dust as well.

For deep cleaning, some of the larger canvas shades can be taken off their rollers and laundered. Check your shades’ instructions to see more details. If a shade can’t come off the rollers, simply use the brush attachment of a vacuum to quickly clean your shades. Any stains can be easily removed by blotting them with a damp sponge and a little cleaning solution.

As we move into the future expect to see even more wonderful advances in shades. Dust repelling shades are on the horizon and brand new, beautiful shades in materials you never dreamed of may become widespread. No matter where our lives take us, we can be sure that anywhere we go, these wonderful shades will always be right there with us.

In the beginning roller shades were simply plain and functional, they were here for a purpose and they did their job well. That was to block out all the light so that the room was dark, nothing got through. They were not meant to be beautiful being plain white vinyl with a piece of wood that resembled a ruler slid through the bottom of the shade to weight it down and hold it straight or still against wind.

About the last ten years vertical blinds seemed to have dominated the windows for an alternative to shades. These are not quite as comparable to the roller shades though since vertical blinds do not have the ability to totally black out all the light. Plus they are a pain to clean and they do get really dusty. But the verticals have always had the ability design wise to be much trendier.

Until now that is, roller shades are making a fashion come back! They come in many different types of solid linens, sheer linens, choices of suede and burn-out fabrics. Many shades are inspired by nature and come in many different textures that give very unique looks and are pleasant to touch.

Another way that roller shades have become trendier is with color selection. Any color can be made and used, layers can be created so that your room can have a coordinated look without a solid colored blind. Many of the tones that seem to be the focus are inspired by nature sandstone, taupe, sage and cotton.

Privacy levels are addressed with the roller shades by layering the material so that when less or more light is desired layers can be taken away or added. This is a great new feature that can make every window customizable.

There can also be the option of solar shading for roller shades. This way the beautiful view outside does not have to be wasted in order to cut down on the heat coming in through the window or the glare on the TV.

As an improvement from the older shades the bottom trim now can come in designs to add a more trendy look to the room rather than the plain straight cut. There is also the option of having a pull cord on the side now somewhat similar to vertical blinds. This helps with limiting the physical touching of the blinds. Lessens stains and marks that may occur with the traditional pulling the bottom to open and shut.

Roller shades have come back better than ever and there is a set that could go great in any room of the house. It is nice to see things that are a great idea stay current and upgrade so that it continues to be a great idea for years to come.

Roller shades provide solutions to many problems such as: hot summer-heat rooms, nosey neighbors, sun glare on the television screen and many more.

Roller shades provide solutions to many problems such as: hot summer-heat rooms, nosey neighbors, sun glare on the television screen and many more.

Many decisions must be made before installing shades. First, you must decide where they will go: on the inside or outside of your windows. If you would like to put them on the inside, they will be mounted to both jambs; if on the outside, they will go to both brackets. When conducting an inside mount, measure the length and width in order to determine which set of shades will be bought. To complete the task, take measurements from the top, middle and bottom of the window. Next, use the smaller width to decide the shade width. The longer section of the window will also be the length of the window shades. When mounting outside, make a decision as to where the top of the window shades will be and how far you would like them to come out to the sides.

After figuring out where to put the window shades (inside or outside) and have made a purchase, window brackets will need to be installed. For inside mounting, be sure not to let the roller shades make contact with top of frame or come in contact with any other obstructions. When installing the brackets, make sure to put them inside the frame and have them level with each other.

For outside mounting, the roller shade should not come into contact with the top of the window frame or any other obstructions. Brackets will again need to be aligned and even with each other. When installation is completed, the window shades should freely move between the brackets. Also, be sure to allow at least 1/8 inch of extra space between brackets in order to allow the mechanism smooth rotation.

If neither outer nor inner installation of roller shades if appealing, the ceiling mount option is always available. However, this will happen outside. Remember not to allow the window shades to come into contact with the ceiling top or anything else that may prevent smooth movement. Brackets will go on the ceiling and should be correctly aligned and leveled. With correctly installed brackets, the window shades will flow very easily and smoothly. Again, remember the 1/8 inch of free space for comfortable mechanism movement.

Spring roller and continuous loop are two main categories of shades. When installing spring rollers: put them in the brackets then continue to place the round end pin to the circle hole. The same steps are used for the other end, as well. Continuous loop installation is as follows: start by putting the inserts in the brackets. Then, put shades in plastic insert/bracket. After that, the round pin goes into the plastic insert/bracket.

When all is done, the roller shades will need to be tested. Spring rollers will normally be lowered about 16 inches in order to perform spring tightening. To do this, take the window shades from their brackets and roll them up. When that is done, put them back and test tightness of the spring. The clutch of a continuous loop is removable if the chain stop needs to be adjusted.

Try to install roller shades with the provided instructions first. If, however, you are using shades that need to be re-installed from being used somewhere else, seek help from a professional at a store that specializes in these activities.

Roller shades had been developed much before the 19th century, but it did not gain much of popularity back then. In the generic terms, these window shades work as a screen for windows and have an in built roller mechanism. These roller shades are placed at the top end of the windows. When you pull the cord attached, these window shades roll down from the back facet. These are the standardized sets of roller shades that are used in offices and households.

The other type of shades is the light filtering. By using these window shades you can effectively keep the amount of light and heat entering in a room according to your own preferences. This would effectively get what you want and you can set up the brightness that you require and block the remaining light.

Quite a while before the modern trend of roller shades took off; these window shades had a little bad reputation on their side. This was because of imperfection in the usage by people. The fabrics of these window shades crease if the rollers are not located at equivalent and correct angles that they are supposed to be. If placed in an incorrect fashion then the rollers damage the fabric and can be really difficult to handle.

Also, the room would appear blackened by the rollers as they would work according to what you set. All these three types enable you to buy what you need and hence you do not have to adjust at all.

In those days, replacing the entire fabric was the only way out, but now with the advancement of technology there have been modifications made and hence now the roller shades can be used with complete financial viability on your side.

If you were to choose from the opaque materials then you can completely block the light from entering your room. Moreover, these materials are uniquely designed to meet the theme of your house or office and thus complete the overall look of the room along with offering the complete privacy.

These roller shades are deployed at most of the households in the present day. But earlier on, before the 19th century, the users due to which they were termed as difficult to handle by many of their users improperly handled the roller shades. The only drawback was, because these were placed at uneven angles they became difficult to roll down and hence the fabrics wrinkled and creased because of the excessive pressure and force applied by the user.

Also, in the earlier times it was difficult and too costly to replace the rollers when their mechanism was age old and could not be used further. But now, due to the effective advancement of technology these can be easily used. Also, they now come with fabrics that do not scratch the window panes at all.

Having custom window shades made can be very expensive. However, with a little time and a bit of creativity you could simply make your shades to match any design you choose for a room. Making your own will not only give you the advantage of having them in whatever pattern you wish, but you will also be able to make them any size you need. So, there are multiple reasons for learning how to make your very own roller shades.

Once you discover the desire to create custom window shades you then begin by finding a kit online that has most of what you need to create them. Most of them do not come with the fabric you need, but this allows you to use your favorite patterns to match your room designs.

Most kits include: an aluminum shade roller, a clutch, a pair of brackets, end caps, a wood slat, and a beaded chain. These kits can be easily found online if they can’t be found locally. Ordering the kit online will also allow you to shop around for the lowest prices available

The many fabrics available for designing your roller shade are the types you iron on, meaning you don’t need to sew it. That means you don’t need to be domestic to create your custom shade that will add life to any room of your home. You can use the shade colors to match or accent the designs or your walls or your furniture.

In addition to the pretty fabric designs available, you may also get a room darkening fabric to keep out the sun and help keep your rooms cooler. Using room darkening fabric can help save on electric bills and keep you and your family more comfortable.

Similarly to in a fabric store, the fabrics available online are available by the yard and typically come about 54 inches wide. This means you only need measure your window you want to cover before ordering your fabric. Unfortunately because these fabrics are cut you may not return them, which means you need to be certain you want it before you order.

Once you get the kit in the mail and your fabrics, you could begin to make and install the custom window shades of your dreams. You will need a steam iron, a cutting tool, and some extra tools to install the window fittings.

If your roller shade kit doesn’t come with the instructions on how to put it all together, or if they are kind of confusing, then you simply need to look online for a great tutorial. There are many easy to follow instructions available to help this project be much easier for you. Once you discover a great tutorial you will be on your way to having custom window shades at a fraction of the cost of purchasing them. A good tutorial should tell you things such as, make sure to cut your fabric two inches wider and nine inches wider than your desired shade size.
