Uses Of Outdoor Mats

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

When selecting outdoor mats, people generally don’t look for something that’s really attractive, with the reason that they’ll be exposed to the elements anyway, and will break down after a while given their use. But really, there’s no reason for you to settle for plain or even ugly mats just for utilitarian purposes. Believe it or not, the technology has developed over the years and today, you can get outdoor mats that are not only durable and resistant to wear and weather, but are also really nice to look at.

The most commonly used material in outdoor mats these days is 100% virgin polypropylene, believed to be the best and strongest one available. As a result, mats made of this material are strong, and they can be even more durable with UV treatment which will allow them to remain in good condition even after sun exposure. Another ideal material is rubber that has been made from recycled tires. These materials are definitely good for outdoor mats, and while you won’t get a lot of fascinating designs, they do make for mats that have simple but attractive colors.

Other materials are also garnering some attention for being good for outdoor mats. Bamboo in particular is a favorite, because mats made with bamboo do look quite natural and the materials also quite resistant to damage too. Yarn is also a good choice, particularly synthetic yarn which can be treated in order to resist changes in weather. Yarn mats have a very cozy, homey look to them, but are strong enough to accommodate foot traffic and bear up against the elements, which will surprise people who see them and think they’ll be destroyed easily.

Where can you use outdoor mats? For starters, you can place them on your front porch or by your front door, or even on your outdoor patio and yard. They won’t just serve the basic purpose of keeping the area clean, but can also function as a decorative accent for the area, especially if they’re made of good materials and have nice colors and designs. Outdoor mats can also be used for your swimming pools or hot tubs to ensure that the surrounding area will be safe for people to walk on even as they drip water all over the place.

If you have a play area for your kids, you might also want to consider getting outdoor rubber mats to protect them from any injuries in the event that they fall while at play. You could also check out any outdoor mats in bright colors to make the place look more cheery.
