Tips on How To Save Power

In school we have been taught stuff about renewable and non-renewable sources of energy. But perhaps there were details that were left out, or parts where we missed out on. One such thing would be the event of consuming more of non-renewable sources at a faster rate.

If we look at the current situation we are in now, we will realize that we are faced with an energy crisis. All are affected by this situation–and leaving this problem to the government alone will not help solve the problem. We can help. We can make a difference.

Let us see some ways we can help save on power at our own homes.

Computer: More often than not, we do not switch off our monitors even after we have shut down our computers. Keep the monitor and the computer switched off when you are not using them.

Start practicing this even when at work. You will help save some more power for the world.

Light bulbs: You can search for other cost-efficient bulbs in the market. You may want to consider trying out compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs. You can save more power and of course, this would equate to lesser power bills.

Many consider these bulbs a wise investment. This is true, when you look at it with a long term perspective.

Air Conditioner: Too many people are not concerned with the right temperature settings for their air conditioners. The result: higher power bills. You can actually turn this around by being conscious on setting the temperature just right.

Washing Machines: Do you use your washing machine as often as you want? Do you use your washing machine even when there are not enough clothes to wash? Minimize the number of washes by washing full load of clothes every time.

Television: Take off the power plug of your television set when not using it. This may not sound a big deal but this tiny step will help save power.

Geysers: It will be to your benefit to keep the thermostat at minimum heat. There is no need to heat the water at high temperatures in longer periods of time.

Refrigerator: Quickly putting hot food inside the refrigerator will cost you more power, since it will need more cooling. You can remedy this by bringing the hot food to room temperature first. After which, you can then place the food inside the refrigerator.

Car: Before you turn on the air conditioner of your car, you can save energy by ensuring you have pulled up the windows of your car.
